Scholarship Overview
Established to honor Donald Robertson, an early teacher of James Madison, who has been credited with first exposing Madison "to many of the ideas of enlightenment that would forever shape his political philosophy and belief in republicanism." Candidates for this scholarship should have junior standing, be enrolled in an academic program at JMU leading to licensure in Elementary Education, and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must submit an application/nomination form, provide two letters of recommendation and prepare a 500 word essay which addresses the questions of: "Why do you want to become a teacher?" and "What you hope to accomplish during your career?" Completed applications must be submitted to the Dean of the College of Education.
