Scholarship Overview
An endowed scholarship established with a gift made by Richard L. '75 and Linda Early '75 Taliaferro, the Taliaferro Family Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education will provide funds annually to an outstanding undergraduate student scholar enrolled in the College of Education, with the appointment of a student as a Taliaferro Family Scholar subject to the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships and the following additional criteria. Specifically, to be eligible for this scholarship the student must be a single parent with responsibility for raising one or more minor children) of the student living in the student's household; the student must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships; the student must be enrolled in a course of study within the College of Education that advances the student toward licensure as a teacher. Please note:
- The first priority will be for students seeking licensure in early childhood education;
- The second priority will be for students seeking licensure in elementary education;
- The third priority will be for students seeking licensure in special education; and,
- The fourth priority will be for students seeking licensure in secondary education.
In the event that there may be no undergraduate student in the College of Education eligible for this scholarship in a particular year, then the scholarship may be awarded to a graduate student in the College of Education who otherwise meet the eligibility criteria. In the event that there may be no undergraduate or graduate students in the College of Education eligible for this scholarship in a particular year, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student in any of the Colleges within the University who otherwise meet the eligibility criteria; that is, the requirement that the student be engaged in a course of study that advances the student toward licensure as a teacher still would be applicable. In the event that there may be no students within the University who meet all the eligibility criteria for this scholarship in a particular year, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student in any of the Colleges within the University who meet the first two criteria noted above, regarding parental responsibilities and financial need; that is, the requirement that the student be engaged in a course of study that advances the student toward licensure as a teacher would be waived.
