Scholarship Overview
The purpose of the endowment is to create the Keith J. O'Connell Memorial Scholarship in memory of Keith J. O'Connell, a beloved son, brother, relative, friend and Kappa Alpha gentleman. This endowment will provide funds annually for members of Kappa Alpha Order. To be named an O'Connell Scholar, recipients must:
- Be a Kappa Alpha Order member in good standing
- Currently serving as or aspire to serve as a first responder or member of the U.S. Military
- Be enrolled as a full-time student
- Have the equivalent of a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
Should there be no qualified applicant within Kappa Alpha Order, or should Kappa Alpha Order no longer be a recognized organization at JMU, then secondary preference will be given to students who meet the remaining criteria.
