Endless Opportunities
With four library locations across campus, students have access to a variety of spaces that support teaching, learning, creativity and research. These spaces are full of resources that will help you pursue your passion.
The Future of Carrier Library
JMU’s oldest library, Carrier, has served as the intellectual and cultural crossroads of campus since 1939. This hallmark building is now receiving a major renovation and expansion in order to better serve the academic needs of JMU students. Located just off the Quad, Carrier will reopen to students in Fall 2026 and campus is buzzing over what’s to come!
Full of resources
Access to JMU’s library means access to a huge array of research resources - and plenty of help from a knowledgeable team. Whether you’re looking for digital articles or something in Special Collections, we want to help you dig into the world’s knowledge as you pursue your next research assignment.
The perfect study spot awaits you
There are so many places to study across campus that we had to create a study spaces map to track them all! You will soon have a go-to list of favorite study spots, and you are bound to have a few located in one of JMU’s libraries. Group study rooms are also available when you need to collaborate on a project with a team. These spaces are equipped with whiteboards and all the necessary technology for group discussions.

With designated 24-hour study spaces, you will always have a quiet place to focus

Get creative
JMU’s libraries are more than books. This is also a space for exploring your creative side - whether it’s for an assignment or for fun! Students have access to The Makery, where services and supplies are available free-of-charge to all JMU students. The space includes 3D printers, a block printing press, a laser cutter, an embroidery machine and more! You can also check out a wide stock of multimedia equipment to produce your next video, podcast or presentation!
