The 2024 Health and Physical Activity Institute provides an opportunity for teachers to share new and innovative teaching and learning practices. The institute is supported by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The primary objective of the initiative is to improve the quality of health and physical education instruction and provide support to implement the VDOE standards of learning for health and physical education which enhance the wellness and educational performance of Virginia’s students. The institute consists of a variety of engaging workshops and general sessions. Participants who attend the entire institute (Mon-Wed) will receive a certificate of completion from the Department of Education documenting 30 hours of professional development.

The institute will be held at the Festival Conference & Student Center on the east campus of James Madison University. On-campus housing is in an east campus dorm where you may select either double or single room occupancy, and NO SHEETS or TOWELS are provided. Being a dorm room, the beds are singles and use XL sheets. You may choose to bring an alarm clock, reading lamp, sheets, towels, and blankets. Or participants may register as a commuter and stay in a local hotel. PLEASE NOTE: Institute registration will be limited in number and registration will close once capacity has been met (this could be before July 1st). Enrollment is only guaranteed when payment is confirmed.

The institute begins on Monday, July 8 at 11:00 am and ends on Wednesday, July 10 at 3:00 pm.
