Professsor Conley teaches in the area of Social Context of Science and Technology. She focuses on the governance of new and emerging technologies, drawing from empirical case studies in genetics and reproductive technologies.

Her dissertation focused on the governance of assisted reproductive technologies in the United Kingdom. During her PhD, she was a fellow with the NSF-funded Socio-Technical Integration Research Project (STIR). As part of this project, Conley participated as an embedded social scientist in genetics laboratories in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Oxford, UK. As part of this “collaborative ethnography,” she worked with scientists to think about the societal considerations related to their day-to-day work in the laboratory.
