Experience

Adam's experience in the front of the classroom and passion for education started as an undergraduate—as a lab instructor and teaching assistant at SUNY Geneseo and a substitute teacher in the rural Catskills school district he grew up in. Prior to his arrival at JMU, Adam taught for fourteen semesters as instructor of record while completing his graduate studies at KU and LSU.

Enthusiastic about public-facing scholarship, Adam integrates local communities into the core of his research. Outside of the classroom, he is an active member of Rise St. James (a grassroots environmental justice organization in the heart of Louisiana's Cancer Alley). Cognizant of his working-class roots, he seeks to bridge the divide between organized labor and fenceline communities towards a populist environmentalism of "the people" rather than the elite.
