The College Council represents the College of Business (CoB) faculty and functions as a standing committee involved in the governance of the college by advising the Dean on matters related to faculty work. One faculty representative from each department is elected to the council to serve a three-year term.

The Dean serves as an exofficio member of the council.

In accordance with James Madison University’s commitment to shared governance, the College of Business (CoB) Dean meets with faculty senators as a group once per semester for roughly one hour. These meetings are coordinated well in advance to ensure maximum representation across College units. Senators are welcome to share insights from their Senate service as well as concerns on behalf of their unit with the Dean. During meetings, the Dean recognizes opportunities to bring forward language and issues to Academic Council, and representative faculty are encouraged to relay these conversations back to their units. These meetings are one important way CoB contributes, as articulated in the JMU shared governance statement, to “fostering a culture of trust, mutual respect, and accountability within the JMU community.”
