Alicia began her teaching career in Harrisonburg City Schools, teaching a range of ages from second grade to seventh grade. The most formative years of Alicia's teaching career have been spent in middle school classrooms, where she believes an emphasis on developing strong, positive relationships between students and the teacher is the first step towards strong literacy development. Using her years of classroom experience, Alicia then went on to serve as an Instructional Coach and Reading Specialist at Skyline Middle School where she was able to use her strong relational skills, with both students and colleagues, to help advance literacy for students. She joined JMU as an adjunct instructor in the Spring of 2016 and is now full-time in the Early Elementary and Education Department. Alicia's current passion is helping her JMU students build strong teacher agency as they begin their future as educators.
