Professional Interests

Dr. Coates has worked in human resources, banking, and higher education. She has held roles such as learning and assessment specialist, research analyst, senior analyst, data specialist, Assistant Director, and owns an organization development consulting company. Dr. Coates was also an instructor for Colorado State University and taught courses in Organization Development, Action Research, and Human Resource Development. Her research interests are in organizational development, meaning of work, Generation Y, and phenomenology. Her dissertation was on the meaning of work for Generation Y employees. Dr. Coates has published articles in Human Resource Development International, International Journal of Technology Intelligence and Planning, and Advances in Developing Human Resources. She has also presented papers at the Academy of Human Resource Development on using a systems models and tool for the meaning of work, organizational development theories, and generational differences.
