Professional Experience 

Katie Shifflett taught in Rockingham County Public Schools for thirteen years. During those years, she spent four years as an English middle school teacher and nine years as a reading specialist. Additionally, she taught preschool for one year at a private preschool. Katie received the Teacher of the Year Award for 2013-2014 at River Bend Elementary. She joined JMU as a full time adjunct instructor in 2018. She is excited for her new role as an advisor.

Personal Interests

Katie enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband have two children, Mary Ruth and Michael and three dogs. She also enjoys running and hiking.
