Kendal Swartzentruber is an Education Coordinator at Virginia Department of Education, Region 5 Training and Technical Assistance Center at James Madison University. Kendal began his work as a Special Educator and behavioral specialist. Drawing on that work he now focuses on topics of self-determination, motivation and student engagement. As a co-state coordinator of the I’m Determined Project Kendal is responsive to promoting environments that increase youth voice and advocacy into educational policy and practice. Kendal is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction respectively. Now as a doctoral candidate in Organizational Leadership Kendal continues to address the critical pedagogies that challenge leaders to transcend the status quo. Interest include his family, gardening, hobby farming and many outdoor activities.
