Shana Meganck is an associate professor at JMU in the School of Communication Studies, teaching public relations classes. She has two main research interests. One focuses on the intersections of health communication, new media and public relations. The other one focuses on pedagogy – both public relations-related pedagogy as well as broader pedagogical topics such as active learning and service learning. Shana’s research has been presented at a number of conferences including AEJMC, NCA, ICA and IPRRC, and has been published in several places including Public Relations Review, Journal of Public Relations Research, Health Communication, Journal of Public Relations Education, Social Media and Strategic Communication, and Teaching Journalism in Mass Communication, amongst others. Shana has a background in public relations, working at Richmond-based agencies with a variety of local and national clients. She received her Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in the Media, Art and Text program, her M.A. from the University of Georgia in Journalism, and her B.A. from Mary Baldwin College in Mass Communication. In her free time, you can find her in the nearest yoga studio, curled up with a good book, or planning her next adventure.
