Veronica Giron, a proud Guatemalan American, earned her B.A. in Organizational Communication and Spanish from James Madison University, where she also minored in Spanish-English Translation & Interpretation and Legal Spanish. During her undergraduate studies, Veronica worked at the Communication Center and was an active member of Lambda Pi Eta. She continued her education with a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from Virginia Tech.

A dedicated scholar, Veronica's research focuses on the Latino community, exploring the media's impact on identity and self-esteem. As a Latina, she is passionate about addressing the influence of media representations on Latino individuals. Her groundbreaking thesis work includes creating the first-ever scale to measure the perception of realism in Latino characters on screen.

In addition to her research, Veronica participated in the Virginia Tech Annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy in both 2023 and 2024, where she discussed imposter syndrome and public speaking anxiety. Her exceptional public speaking skills have facilitated diverse research opportunities and reinforced her commitment to challenging stereotypes and highlighting the harmful effects of media misrepresentations on Latino communities.

Veronica teaches SCOM 122. Outside of academia, she loves traveling, exploring different languages and cultures, and is an avid photographer. She is also a passionate reader with a particular fondness for authors such as Ruth Ware, Rebecca Yarros, Sarah J. Maas, and Freida McFadden. Her favorite book series is Harry Potter.
