Endowments allow donors to support the university now and for many years to come. The JMU Foundation manages the endowment with this long-term horizon as its focus. The objective is to maintain the endowment’s purchasing power through sustained growth in order to provide consistent and ever-growing support for the needs of the university. The Foundation’s current spending rate is 5%. The rate is applied to a 12-quarter moving average of endowment market values to smooth short-term capital markets volatility, as we experienced this past year.
