El Ánimo: Exploring Afro-Latinx Poets
Ánimo is a word of many meanings: passion, courage, spirit, energy, vigor. It’s something you need to find within yourself—it’s in how you walk, how you speak, how you write. It’s pride and confidence in who you are. All the poets represented in this exhibit identify as Latinx and/or Afro-Latinx: a rich intersection of African and Latinx identities that manifests as an infinite range of unique, challenging, and often invisible experiences. These poems are just a small sampling of the ánimo that fuels Latinx and Afro-Latinx poets and the impact they make on the world, and we hope that their passion and pride connects with and inspires yours.
