Beginning in the 1990s, The Middle School Leadership Academy is an exciting one-week summer program, which provides opportunities for students entering the 7th and/or 8th grade to live on a college campus! Students are picked up by the JMU resident counselors, from their respective schools on the beginning Sunday of camp. At the close of camp students are asked to be picked up from JMU by parents after the closing ceremony on Saturday. The Middle School Leadership Academy also provides opportunities for students to develope stronger personal and social skills as they will be interacting with rising 7th and 8th grade students from all over Virginia!
Throughout the week, Middle School Leadership Academy activities will include:
Daily Workshops
Physical and mental health components
Personal and social problem solving
Recreation
Leadership skills
Teambuilding activities and
Field Trips!!!
The goal of Middle School Leadership Academy is to motivate young men and women to seek careers in higher education and develope positive relationships between peer groups.
Please note that James Madison University cover 100% of the cost to attend the summer program! If accepted into the program, a $25 reservation fee is required. Also, we primarily recruit from Professor in Residence (PIR) partner schools. All other requests for students to participate that are NOT enrolled in one of our PIR schools will be admitted at the discretion of the coordinator/director of the program.
