Leading Change Conference 2025
Leadership Matters
February 13th-14th, 2025
Keynote Speaker

Headshot of Carly FiorinaCarly Fiorina began her career as a secretary for a nine-person real estate firm. She climbed the corporate ladder at AT&T and Lucent Technologies through a willingness to tackle tough problems, a relentless focus on producing results and accepting accountability, and a passion for leveraging the talents of others and building high-performance teams.

She was recruited to Hewlett-Packard with a mission to transform the company from a laggard to a leader, becoming the first woman to lead a Fortune 50 company. During her tenure as Chair and CEO, Hewlett-Packard became the largest technology company in the world, innovation tripled, cash flow quadrupled, and revenue and profit growth accelerated.

Carly has advised the Department of Defense, the Central Intelligence Agency, the State Department, and the Department of Homeland Security. In 2015, she launched a campaign for President. She is also a member of the newly-formed American Bar Association Task Force for American Democracy, which is focused on those actions necessary to improve citizens’ confidence in American elections.

Three core beliefs inform her approach to every challenge:

  • Individuals have more potential than they realize;
  • The people closest to a problem know best how to solve it;
  • The highest calling of leadership is to unlock potential in others and work with them to solve problems and change things for the better.

In this session, we will engage in conversations associated with creating and assessing such curricula, using the University of Antwerp’s Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) as a jumping off point. Manuscript reviewers serve a critical purpose in the scientific process. Their evaluations drive decisions regarding which manuscripts are accepted for publication, and the practices used in published manuscripts become the standards for evaluating subsequent manuscripts. This workshop includes insights from Journal of Managerial Psychology (JMP) associate editors, analyzes examples of high and low-quality reviewer comments, and includes an interactive component wherein small groups of participants, with JMP editors, read and discuss their evaluations of different pieces of an example manuscript.

This workshop introduces how several methods can be utilized to test hypotheses. Specifically, we start with the systematic review on capturing complementarities/synergies as resource complementarity/synergy, which is defined as conditions where the return of one resource increases in the presence of the other resource(s), is frequently suggested to play a critical role in the development of sustained competitive advantage. Next, we introduce two methods, i.e., growth modeling and network analysis, with empirical examples: (1) investigating team conflict dynamics using growth modeling and (2) examining strategic leadership through social network analysis.
