James Madison University Information Technology (IT) in partnership, with various health service providers and wellness education and support offices, maintains a number of systems that assist in the maintenance and/or improvement of the health and well-being of JMU students. University systems such as Medicat and Titanium are used to collect and store health and wellness data. 

  • Demographic/Contact Information 
    such as name, date of birth, current academic status, local address, and identities including, but not limited to gender, race, sexual orientation, and religion 
  • Clinical Information 
    including what led you to seek services, current symptoms, treatment goals, current physical functioning and mental status, substance use, level of risk posed to yourself or others, and past personal and familial history of health and treatment
     
  • System Logging 
    such as browser and operating system used, date and time of login, length of session, transaction timestamps
  • Diagnose Physical and Mental Health  
    medical service providers use your data to accurately assess and understand your health and any issues that may be causing you concern. 
  • Develop Treatment Plans and Monitor Progress 
    medical service providers use medical data to establish ways to treat conditions, relieve symptoms and improve physical and mental health. 
  • Planning and Reporting 
    JMU analyzes aggregate data to identify, evaluate, and respond to the most common and significant issues being experienced by JMU students to develop new service offerings and improve existing ones. 
  • Directly 
    when you provide it to us, such as when you complete intake forms or register for services 
  • Indirectly
    when you initiate a request for your information to be shared with JMU from an external service provider 
  • Automatically 
    when systems generate and store data based on visits, interactions, and system automated rules 
  • From JMU Medical Service Providers or Personnel  
    when they record diagnoses, treatment plans, or case notes; when other offices refer students to JMU health and wellness services 

Identifiable Clinical Information is not disclosed to anyone without your knowledge and written consent. With your consent, your information is used to assist in securing other needed services and support.  

Non-identifiable information (aggregate) is shared with campus partners and external entities to analyze program effectiveness such as accreditation.  

Personal information may also be shared when required by law, or as permitted by law to protect the safety, property, or rights of the university, its community members and guests.
