JMU’s Card Services department issues faculty, staff, affiliates, and students their JMU Access Card (JACard).  The JACard is the official identification document of the university and is used to administer dining services and access controls.  When you use your JACard, information about you is generated and stored in university systems such as CS Gold (CBORD), UGRYD (CBORD), and Atrium Campus.

  • Demographic/Contact Information
such as your JMU issued ID number, name, photo, department and title (if applicable), email, phone number, address
  • Payment Information
such as credit card information used to pay for meal plans and fund declining balance plans (PCI Compliant).
  • Access Information
such as physical access permissions granted/denied by university departments.
  • Logging Information
when you use your JACard, we record information such as the location, date and time that your card was used and for what purpose (entry, purchases, etc.)

The data listed above is only available in certain managed systems.  The magnetic stripe on your JACard contains only your JMU issued ID number.

JMU uses JACard data to enable:

  • Physical Access Controls
support processes associated with allowing access to restricted areas on campus such as residence halls, laboratories, administrative buildings, and university vehicle gates
  • Fiscal Services
provide the ability to purchase meal plans and fund declining balances (i.e. FLEX) online through myMadison.  Track meal plan usage (i.e. punches) and declining balance usage.  FLEX can be used as payment for goods/services at many on- and off- campus locations, including laundry, copy centers, local restaurant /grocery stores, UREC rentals, Bookstore, and Parking meters.
  • Library Services
provide the ability to check -out books, media, and equipment
  • Attendance
provide you with access to events across services such as athletic events, libraries, health/recreation centers.  Some departments on-campus use JACard swipe counts to record attendance at passport events or for wage reporting purposes
  • Planning and Reporting
JMU analyzes aggregate data to identify, evaluate, and respond to trends in Dining Services operations such as meal plan participation and heavy dining hall traffic times
  • Directly
when you provide it to us, such as when you have your photo taken, complete a meal plan application, or fund your declining balances online.
  • Automatically
when the student administration system generates a student profile and assigns you an ID number and store data based on visits, interactions, and system automated rules.
  • From JMU Staff
when Card Services staff process meal plan applications or access control requests sent in by various departments on-campus.
  • Swipes
when you run your JACard through a magnetic stripe card reader at an on- or off- campus location

JMU does not sell your information. We may share your JACard data with:

  • System Service Providers
that support Card Services systems and services offered by the university, such as CSGold and UGRYD (CBORD), and Atrium Campus; we require our service providers to keep your personal information secure and use it only for providing services on the university’s behalf.
