Where are you from? Why did you choose JMU?
I'm from Richmond, VA and I chose JMU because it has a great political science department and I love the campus. JMU gave me the opportunity to attend college and fund my education while being an independent student.
Why did you decide to participate in Washington Semester?
I decided to participate in the Washington Semester because I knew great opportunities would come out of it. I also looked forward to digging deeper into my career goals, which the internship helps with, while networking. I also wanted to experience D.C.
What were the highlights of your internship?
Getting the internship of my choosing and excelling at my internship with the Housing Rights Initiative.
What was the highlight of your Washington experience?
Being recognized by Washington Semester alumnus Amanda Andere when she spoke to our group about housing justice. She wrote about our connection on her Instagram page.
What advice would you offer to future Washington Semester students?
Stay focused and challenge yourself and be your authentic self in any room you walk into. The world is yours and take everything you want in this lifetime and at your internship.
What are your long-term career plans?
To work in the government field or nonprofit sector on housing advocacy or child advocacy. I also plan to get my masters in clinical social work.
