Internship

U.S. Department of Justice

Where are you from? Why did you choose JMU?

I'm from Yorktown, VA. I chose JMU shortly after making a day trip to both Virginia Tech and JMU. I asked God to help guide me in the direction that I was meant to go in, and he did. I remember being on east campus and a beam of light shined on the campus. After that, I took a chance and accepted my offer. Best decision I’ve ever made. ROLL DUKES.

What inspired you to participate in the Washington Semester program?

The allure of propelling my career while expanding my educational horizons led me to embrace the Washington Semester program. Additionally, the prospect of immersing myself in the dynamic culture of D.C. for four months intrigued me, prompting thoughts of potentially establishing roots there post-graduation.

Can you highlight some standout moments from your internship experience?

Reflecting on my internship experience, standout moments include attending the Attorney General's holiday party and stepping foot inside the esteemed halls of the Supreme Court. These experiences left an indelible mark, fostering a sense of purpose and determination to one day return to such esteemed environments professionally.

Any sage advice for future Washington Semester participants?

To future Washington Semester students, I recommend tapping into the invaluable JMU network during your D.C. tenure. While meeting the minimum networking requirements may suffice, engaging with JMU alumni has proven transformative for me. Their insights into navigating the complexities of D.C. and their genuine willingness to assist underscore the strength of our shared Dukes' community.

What do you envision for your future career?

Looking ahead, my aspirations include attending law school to establish myself as an attorney.
