Provides guidance and resources for faculty looking to secure external funding for research projects. For example, information on the grant development process at JMU, identification of university offices and services that support faculty research and innovation, resources to identify funding opportunities, and presentations by funding agency program officers.

Raises the visibility of JMU academic and research accomplishments through a variety of tasks and methods, including: content management of website, news story development, production of newsletters, social media engagement, conference and workshop support, and coordination with JMU’s Office of Public Affairs.

Advises faculty and staff on events that enhance the research, scholarship, and creative activities of faculty and students. Provides guidance to external partners seeking to host events on campus. Assists with space reservations, parking, directions, agenda development, program design, marketing, and cross-campus coordination.

Assists the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship develop, implement, and manage special projects of university, state, and national importance, to include the following focus areas: cybersecurity, industrial hemp, biotechnology, alternative and renewable energy, and veteran support programs.

Connects faculty and student projects and ideas with local, state, and federal agencies and offices. Assists JMU senior leadership develop annual federal relations agenda for briefings with U.S. Senators and Representatives.

Provides support to the JMU Faculty Research Council (FRC), whose mission is to, “provide a forum for faculty and staff to have input relating to the policies and procedures of the university as they relate to externally funded research and sponsored programs.” Manages FRC review of the university’s most prestigious research recognition – the Provost Award for Excellence in Research & Scholarship.
