Yulin Yuan is an interdisciplinary artist based in Virginia, born in China and raised in South Africa. She focuses on collage, video, and photography, exploring identity and mythology through family history and community. Yulin’s work deconstructs intimate spaces through performance and image-making based on her immigrant experiences. She has exhibited work both internationally and nationally and is the VMFA Professional Fellow for 2024-2025. Yulin obtained her MFA from James Madison University in the United States and her BFA from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
