Welcome to JMU STEM Corps!

This is for both new and returning members: please use the below as a checklist to ensure you've completed all necessary steps before signing the agreement form.

UPDATED, PLEASE READ! Our first wave of recruitment and onboarding is finished, however, we are always welcoming more students to our STEM Corps community. Once you complete this list and submit the agreement form, background check permission form, and Friday availability form (all on the checklist), you can be added to our volunteer schedule as early as one week after submitting these forms.

Why are we asking you to do this?

  1. We work with minors so extra precautions are required to ensure safety.
  2. While professors and STEM Center staff play an important role in our events (mostly behind the scenes), our student volunteers (you!) are the "face" of our programs, you are the ones representing JMU to the community and determining the impact our work has on the children with whom we engage.
  3. We want you to feel prepared, confident, and comfortable as learning facilitators.

Checklist:

  1. If you haven't submitted the interest form, please do that first. Dr. Cresawn checks these often and will email you with a "STEM Corps follow-up" email within 2-3 days. If you don't get this email, please let her know (cresawko@jmu.edu)
  2. Watch Dr. Cresawn's Welcome to STEM Corps video.
  3. If you feel this is something you want to try, simply accept the Canvas invitation.
  4. Find the "Events, Signups, and Contacts" sheet on Canvas home page (also here) and click on all 7 tabs at bottom to see how we use this.
  5. On the contacts tab of that sheet, find your name and check your information. Specifically,
    1. Add any missing information
    2. Make corrections where needed including preferred first name.
    3. Please be careful not to accidentally delete or change info for other members.
  6. Read the Learning Facilitator's Guidelines document.
  7. Join the "All Members STEM Corps 23-24" Group Me (QR code on Canvas home page). If participating in B&GC programming, you will later add yourself to the Bluestone or Stone Spring club Group Me once we assign you.
  8. If you plan to attend any B&GC Fridays: submit this form to indicate Friday afternoon conflicts and transportation needs.
  9. If you plan to attend any B&GC Fridays, download, complete, and submit this form by emailing it as an attachment to Dr. Cresawn (cresawko@jmu.edu). You can also find this under files on the Canvas page. The STEM Center pays for the background checks
  10. Optional for B&GC volunteers- watch the first 6.5 min. of "donor pitch" video about this program for inspiration- found on the Canvas home page

11. Agreement Form

Confirm that you've done all of the above checklist items by completing and submitting the agreement form.
