Join us for the gallery opening of "The Pit Stop"!
March 7 | Noon–1 p.m. | The Union, Taylor Down Under
Madison Motorsports is a JMU organization that unites car enthusiasts. Many members express their passion through photography, capturing the artistry of automotive culture. “The Pit Stop” showcases the work of multiple club members, highlighting the intersection of cars and photography.
Three of the club’s executive members explain what sparked their interest in cars. John Williams, senior engineering major and club president, inherited his father’s passion for cars and spent much of his time at the racetracks with a friend who raced. Chase Brewer, junior engineering major and treasurer, credits his interest to working on cars with his dad growing up. Jacob Little, junior SMAD student and vice president, describes his journey beginning as a childhood fascination with Hot Wheels and movies like Cars which evolved into an appreciation for real vehicles and eventually motorsports photography.
Beyond photography, Madison Motorsports fosters a hands-on automotive community. Chase explains how the car shows are a great way to bring the community together by showing off the hard work everyone puts into their cars. The club hosts two annual car shows—one in the fall and one in the spring—with a portion of proceeds supporting local charities, like the Harrisonburg Fire Department. They also host other events that promote driver education, road safety and various aspects of car culture, from track racing to off-roading and sim racing.
Through this exhibit, Madison Motorsports hopes to share not only its members' work but also their deep-rooted enthusiasm for cars. This allows the audience to learn about the club, who they are and the passion behind the work. Jacob believes viewing the gallery gives motorsports media the recognition it deserves. Although motorsports media may not be widely recognized, the club uses it to share their passion with others. John explains how the club helps people see that cars aren’t just transportation—they can also be fun and artistic. The club welcomes anyone, regardless of experience, who wants to explore the world of cars.
