If you are applying for re-entry and...
- you were on academic probation, academic suspension alert, or academic suspension when you left JMU, OR
- you were on good standing when you left JMU, and have been absent from JMU for at least 2 years/24 months
a personal statement will be a required part of your re-entry form.
Personal Statement Words of Wisdom:
- Construct your statement prior to starting your application.
- Focus on expressing yourself clearly and concisely.
- Pay attention to grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proofread your statement prior to adding it to your re-entry form.
Your personal statement should address:
- What factors(s)/ circumstance(s) led to your leaving JMU? If your cumulative GPA was below a 2.000 when you left JMU, be sure to explain the reason(s) you struggled academically.
- What have you been doing since leaving JMU? Highlight how your activities and accomplishments since leaving JMU have prepared you for a successful return to JMU.
- Why do you believe you are now prepared to return to JMU and complete your undergraduate degree? What are your current academic goals? What is your specific plan for managing coursework and achieving your academic goals?
