Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program | Harrisonburg | Volunteer Tutor | The primary goal of the Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (SVMEP) is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment. Migrant Education does this by offering year-round advocacy and supplemental instructional services for preschool and school aged eligible students as well as young adults under the age of twenty-two, targeting the students who are most at risk due to their high mobility and/or limited proficiency in English. The service-learner would be tutoring a student in the Migrant Education Program, in-home, twice a week for the length of an hour during the semester. The service-learner would help their student with language acquisition, homework completion, or any other educational projects they may need help with.
