The dual Au.D and Ph.D program prepares an individual to be a highly competent clinical audiologist (the Au.D.) who also has the knowledge and skills to contribute to the scientific base of the discipline through the conduct of independent research and to disseminate state-of-the-science knowledge to others through university teaching and research (the Ph.D.). As part of students' Au.D. program of study, they obtain the requisite range of advanced-level disciplinary and professional knowledge and clinical experiences to meet the national standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and to understand the many and varied clinical work settings. The Ph.D. component provides students with necessary experiences, depth of knowledge, and skills associated with designing research, applying appropriate research analysis tools, and executing research, including the reporting of research. It also provides them with experiences in university teaching and/or clinical supervision and an understanding of the academic work environment. The dual Au.D/Ph.D. opens up all career paths in audiology.
