Program Dates: June 12, 2024 – July 23, 2024 (No camp on Fridays)
No camp on June 19, July 4, & July 5
This year, we are offering different options to meet the needs of the children in our community. Please review the details below, and on the application, and select the clinics that you would like to be considered for so we can place your child appropriately. The first week (week of June 10) will be assessments and is mandatory to participate in the rest of the program. You can select multiple options
Young Children’s Program (YCP)
Time: Monday-Thursday, 9:00am – 11:30am
Location: JMU Anthony Seeger Hall
Description: YCP is an early learning program operated by JMU College of Education. The curriculum, environment, and organization are based on professional standards and research related to the learning and development of young children. Our Scottish Rite participants will be immersed within the early learning classroom while simultaneously receiving intensive speech-language services to meet their communication needs. For YCP, we are seeking applicants from 3-5 years of age who have some classroom readiness skills, including independent toileting.
Speech and Language Clinic
Time: Monday-Thursday, 8:30am – 10:00 am and 10:30am – 12:00pm, or individual afternoon sessions from 1pm to 4pm
Location: JMU Speech-Language Clinic
Description: Small group sessions will be offered for children with speech and/or language needs. Children will be grouped alongside peers who are working on similar goals. Examples of each are listed below:
Speech: articulation & phonological disorders
Language: understanding and producing language (sentences, parts of speech, etc), alternative means of communication (AAC), social communication
Adagio House Summer Day Camp
Time: Monday-Thursday, 9:00am – 11:30am
Location: JMU Speech-Language Clinic
Description: Services for teens & young adults (ages 13-25) with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Families can sign up for the full camp or for individual weeks. - assistive technology intervention and evaluation
- self-advocacy
- social communication support for interaction with peers, coworkers, and mentors
- literacy intervention and support
- functional goals to support activities of daily life and employment
As a reminder, applications must be completed by a parent/guardian along with a recommendation from the child’s speech-language pathologist. Please include a copy of their most recent IFSP, IEP, or Plan of Care to help us ensure continuity of care. Since this is an intensive program, participants must be able to commit to attending the entire five weeks. Space is limited as we have a 1:1 ratio of campers to graduate students.
