Application Process
The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program (Online) application cycle will open on September 15, 2024. The application deadline is January 15, 2025. A CSDCAS application (status of complete or verified) and JMU supplemental application must be received by January 15th to be considered for admission to the program.
General admissions decisions will be communicated in early March.
For the online program only:
Applications completed/verified by November 15, including Graduate School supplemental application, will be considered for Priority Admission and receive decision by December 15, 2024.
- A minimum 3.25 overall GPA or major GPA are required for admission
- GREs are no longer required for application.
- GA/TA funding is not available for online/part-time students.
- All applicants are encouraged to visit the admission page of our website for complete information. Follow all instructions carefully.
- A limited number of fee waivers for JMU supplemental application are available to applicants to the online program only.
This is a two-step application process. Applicants are required to complete an application through CSDCAS and a supplemental application to the Graduate School at JMU.
Step One
Complete all aspects of the CSDCAS application including:
- a clinical scenario essay (see instructions and prompt in CSDCAS)
- a video response (see instructions and prompt in CSDCAS)
- experiences and achievements sections of the application
- official transcripts
- two letters of recommendation
Letters should address your ability to think critically and provide evidence of your interpersonal skills such as compassion, collaboration, adaptability, resilience, and openness to feedback. Consider asking a faculty member, an employer, or a leader in one of your extracurricular organizations/activities. Letter writers should not be friends or family members.
Step Two
After you have a status of Complete or Verified in CSDCAS, you must complete a supplemental application to the JMU Graduate School.
You will provide evidence of Verified status in CSDCAS before completing the JMU Graduate School Application.
Complete the JMU Graduate School Application online:
- You must complete the JMU Graduate Application prior to the posted deadlines.
- JMU has a limited number of fee waivers available for the JMU Graduate School supplemental application for the online program only.
- Email slp@jmu.edu for the fee waiver code after you have Verified status in CSDCAS and before you complete the JMU Graduate School application.
- Application fee refunds are not available.
- You do NOT need to submit letters of recommendations, GRE scores, transcripts, or essays as part of the Graduate School application.
- When application decisions are completed by the CSD faculty, the Graduate School (TGS) will send you an email notification with a link to your “Applicant Status Page” where you may view your admission decision.
- If you are admitted to the CSD program, you will need to send original transcripts to the JMU Graduate School prior to beginning classes.
