The School Psychology program experience at JMU is holistic and inclusive of opportunities to be a part of member organizations. These posts offer leadership opportunities that would carry over to a student's professional career.
The Graduate School sponsors the Graduate Student Association (GSA) which promotes interdisciplinary unity between JMU graduate students, for which School Psychology has a representative.
The Psychology Graduate Student Council(PGSC) members serve as liaisons between the Graduate School, Department of Graduate Psychology, the Department's individual programs and its students, and represents student concerns as well as keeping them informed about departmental happenings.
The Virginia Academy of School Psychologists (VASP) promotes the interests of Virginia's students, schools, families and communities, and has four member committees: Membership, Public Education, Continuing Education and Ethics and Legislative. First and second year School Psychology students are eligible for membership.
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) represents the interests of school psychologists, graduate students and related professionals throughout the United States, plus an additional 25 countries worldwide. Examples of representation includes sharing monthly updates with the students in your program, initiating advocacy, school psychology awareness, and NASP activities for your program, as well as sharing your perspectives in NASP publication, joining online discussions and networking at the convention.
