Giving Opportunities

The Department of Graduate Psychology needs your help!  Our Department engages students, faculty and members of the community to advance knowledge through basic and applied research, conduct innovative professional education programs, and help students become leaders in organizations that provide effectively apply principles of psychology and counseling to solve individual, organizational, and educational problems. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us develop these resources:

  • Promote student and faculty innovation, scholarship and professional development in the context of the department’s programs.
  • Support psychology or counseling student research projects conducted at JMU.
  • Develop scholarships for deserving students who might otherwise not be able to afford to enroll in our programs.

How to Contribute to the Department of Graduate Psychology

The purpose of this fund is to support Graduate Psychology counseling students with interests in substance abuse counseling or crisis counseling to include, but not be limited to, conference registration, travel expenses, scholarship support, and research/material expenses.

This fund supports the work of the faculty and students in the eight programs of the Department of Graduate Psychology. Students in the Department of Graduate Psychology study School Psychology, School Counseling, Clinical and Mental Health Counseling,  Assessment and Measurement, Psychological Sciences, College Student Personnel Administration, Clinical and School Psychology, as well as Counseling and Supervision. Funds increase opportunties for students and faculty including but not limited to funding guest speakers and supporting students to travel to national conferences to share their research findings.

This fund supports the work of James Madison Univesity’s nationally reocognized  Assessment & Measurement Ph.D. program which works to train professionals to meet the growing demand for quality assurance and program accountability. Funds support students through networking activities and professional development opportunties including traveling to state, regional and national meetings to present their innovative research.

This fund supports students in the CSPA program, a program designed to provide professional preparation for college, university, and community college positions. Preparation for college student personnel careers involves participation in learning experiences designed to provide an understanding of the college student, various collegiate subcultures, and the nature of higher education as an institution in the United States.

This fund supports the work of the Combined  and Integrated Doctoral Program in Clinical and School Psychology. The Combined - Integrated Doctoral Program in Clinical and School Psychology is an innovative, applied psychology program designed to prepare students to be leaders in the provision of comprehensive psychological services for diverse people across the lifespan. Contributions to the Combined-Integrated program directly support students through the the sponsoring of guest speakers, professional development workshops, educational materials aquisition and student travel to state, regional and national conferences.

Graduate Psychology joined Martin and Jane Davis in honoring the life of Jonathan Davis - an independent thinker, a self-directed learner, and a compassionate man - with the Jonathan D. Davis ('81,'85) Scholarship Endowment.  This scholarship benefits a full-time student enrolled in a JMU Graduate Psychology.  The recipient shall be an outstanding student who is preparing for a career in mental health who has exhibited an interest in suicide, suicide prevention, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  He/she must show a pattern of contributing service to mental health activities that benefit the community. This scholarship was initiated in memory of Jonathan Davis, a student who received his B.S. in Psychology and an M.A. in School psychology from JMU. Jonathan suffered from depression, and shortly after receiving his Ph.D. from Adelphi University, on July 25, 1997, in his 39th year, Jonathan took his own life.  By promoting the professional development of future students who strive to help individuals like Jonathan, contributors to this scholarship hope to help individuals better cope with concerns like those experienced by Jonathan Davis.

This scholarship, which recognizes a Masters' level student who demonstrates excellence in academic performance, provides required summer tuition support not covered by other funding sources.

This award will recognize future leaders in school psychology.
