Human Performance Lab
The Department of Kinesiology at James Madison University is home to the Human Performance Laboratory. HPL researchers study human movement from a broad perspective using laboratory and field-based approaches. Students interested in completing a thesis work alongside faculty to design, collect and analyze their research and potentially present their results at professional conferences such as SEACSM and ACSM. Research focus areas include:
- Cardiopulmonary and metabolic responses to acute exercise
- Interactions between nutrition and exercise in health and disease
- Cardiovascular and pulmonary limitations to exercise tolerance
- Effects of nutritional interventions on endurance performance and recovery
- Hemostatic Responses and Adaptations to Exercise
- Impact of Sleep on Cardiovascular & Autonomic Function
- Integrative Exercise Physiology
- Muscle Physiology
- Physical Activity and Health
- Sport Psychology
- Substrate Metabolism and Endurance Performance
