Undergraduate Program
The Department of Engineering offers a world-class undergraduate experience rooted in the philosophy of learning by doing. Our ABET-accredited, 4-year interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree program emphasizes hands-on learning, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for the challenges of the modern engineering landscape.
Our small class sizes foster supportive mentoring by faculty and ensure a high level of student engagement. Our project-based curriculum allows for modern specialization, culminating in a capstone project providing a focused, customized learning platform. Our program is rich in design, systems analysis, and project management, offering numerous opportunities to tailor your education through elective courses and areas of concentration.
Graduate Program
In addition to our robust undergraduate program, we offer a 4+1 accelerated Master of Engineering (MEng) program for JMU Engineering students. Through a partnership with the Virginia Tech College of Engineering, our students can pursue an accelerated MEng degree in Computer Engineering (CpE) or Computer Science and Applications (CSA).
Eligible students can prepare for early admission to Virginia Tech's MEng program as early as the spring of their junior year. Once accepted, students can take up to 6 credits during their senior year that count towards their JMU graduation requirements and their MEng degree at Virginia Tech. After beginning their MEng degree at Virginia Tech, students can complete their coursework in as few as 12 months, spanning a fall, spring, and summer semester with a 9-credit course load each term.
