The estimated tuition for the 12-month academic program is $23,500, which covers costs at James Madison University and the University of Malta. In addition, a supplemental fee of $2,750 covers expenses associated with program-related field experiences in the U.S. and Malta.

This is a highly competitive program cost compared to other master’s degrees in sustainability, which range from $40,000 to $60,000. Our cost advantage is primarily due to the ability to complete our accelerated program in one year of study.

Housing

Due to the requirement for short-term housing in Harrisonburg, Virginia (fall) and Msida, Malta (spring), our program works closely with local housing providers to help secure housing on a limited and first-come-first-served basis. Housing includes individual rooms with a private bath within a shared apartment with other program participants. Considering costs in the U.S. and Malta, the estimated cost per room is $900 per month and includes utilities.

Additional Costs

Board, airfare, passport and visa processing, books, and personal expenses are not included in the tuition and fees. Therefore, we highly recommend students create a budget realistic for their needs when considering the total cost of participating in the program.
