No. 13 Pass Rate in the nation on CPA Exam–“first time testing events for universities with 60 or more candidates”, NASBA 2019. A post-graduation CPA exam review course is offered on campus every summer.

  • Associate Professor James Irving was selected as the recipient of the Dr. Otto Brenner Memorial Award, 2021 for Outstanding Undergraduate Professor.
  • Two 2019 JMU M.S. in accounting graduates are recipients of the prestigious Elijah Watt Sells award, which is given to those who score above 95.50% on all four sections of the Uniform CPA examination and pass all four in their first attempt. They were two of only 110 test takers worldwide who qualified for the award this year out of the 86,000 that sat for the exam. 
  • Each fall, the Meet the Firms event offers ACCT, FIN and CIS majors a unique opportunity to network with firms in a career fair format. 
  • Accounting students support the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  They assisted over 450 low-income taxpayers in spring 2019. 
  • All of the accounting faculty hold professional certifications, either as Certified Public Accountants or Certified Management Accountants.
  • Assistant Professor Nicole Wright received JMU’s Kenneth R. Bartee Award for Teaching Innovation, 2019.
  • Associate Professor Sandra Cereola received the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, 2019.
