JMU’s Computer Information Systems program is one out of 10 CIS programs in the world that are accredited by both the AACSB and ABET.
- First place for the 2024 Teaching and Learning Publication Award was awarded to Luis Novoa, associate professor.
- Professor, Raktim Pal, eared second place for the 2024 Applied or Integration/Application Publication Award.
- Rhonda Slyer, academic unit head and R. Jarl Bliss Faculty Fellow, earned first place for the 2024 Basic or Discovery Publication Award.
- Hoda Atef Yekta, assistant professor, came in third place for the 2024 Basic or Discovery Publication Award.
- Associate Professor Baback Vaziri is the recipeint of the 2024 Distinguished Teacher Provost Award.
- The IT Consulting course involves over 25 firms who mentor, teach and judge student work. Over the last five years, these firms have later hired 240 CIS graduates and provided over 75 internships to CIS majors.
- The Special Topics: Consulting course is often offered as a short term study abroad or study away trip.
- The Association for Information Systems (AIS) Student Chapter competed nationally and was named student chapter of the year in 2024. Additionally, JMU’s students won first place in AI & Large Language Models (LLM) in Company Security Policy and second place in the Data Visualization Challenge.
- Associate Professor Baback Vaziri was awarded the 2023 Kenneth R. Bartee Award or Teaching Innovation.
