Now in its third decade, the business plan competition showcases the best business plans developed by teams of students in COB 300. This 12-credit curriculum serves as the gateway to JMU's College of Business, integrating fundamental principles of finance, management, marketing and operations.
Some 700 students have participated in the competition since it was launched in 2003. Five student-teams advance through two preliminary rounds to vie, in the finals, for scholarships totaling in excess of $50,000. Each team delivers a pitch and engages in a question-and-answer session with the judges. The order-of-finish and allocation of scholarships are announced at the conclusion of the team presentations.

"Our team's mindset completely changed when we found out we were selected to compete in the final round. Everyone on this team knew how meaningful and rare this opportunity was, so we wanted to give it everything we had to walk away feeling truly proud of all the hard work we had put in together.”
