An endowed scholarship established in 1996 by the J.C. Penney Company for the benefit of deserving students in retail studies at James Madison University. To be named a J.C. Penney scholar, a student must have a demonstrated interest in retailing and an outstanding academic record. Preference will be given to students who are J.C. Penney associates or immediate family of J.C. Penney associates. In addition, J.C. Penney scholars must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Provide letters of recommendation from faculty
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
- Demonstrate character, ability, potential and leadership determined through in-person interviews
The nomination and awarding of this scholarship will be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the head of the Department of Marketing. Beyond the above criteria, the appointment of a student to receive this scholarship will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
