Dr. Jim Bywater is the Associate Director of Technology, which includes responsibilities pertaining to technology infrastructure development, research technology integration, data management and analysis, collaboration and communication, and strategic planning and leadership.  Dr. Bywater is an Assistant Professor at James Madison University in the Learning, Technology, and Leadership Education department. He holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia and degrees in Adult Education and Physics from institutions in the UK. Dr. Bywater's research focuses on the design and use of intelligent tools to enhance teaching and learning, with projects including a natural language processing webtool to improve teacher feedback and an AI-based dialogue simulator for classroom questioning skills.
