Application Process
- Beginning in October of each school year, complete the FAFSA on https://fafsa.gov (School Code: 003721)
- Parents and students filing their FAFSA for the first time will each need to create an FSA ID on fsa-id/create-account
- Make sure to include JMU on your list of schools.
- If you are selected for verification, you may be required to submit more documentation before a financial aid package can be generated.
- Receive your Official Financial Aid Offer at your JMU e-mail address
- If you are classified as a dependent student by the FAFSA, your parents will receive a separate Parent PLUS Loan Financial Aid Offer that will only contain information about their PLUS loan eligibility.

- Returning Borrowers - If you have borrowed a subsidized or unsubsidized loan at JMU in the past, then have completed the process after you have accepted your loan.
- First Time Borrowers - If you are accepting a subsidized or unsubsidized loan for the first time at JMU, then you will need to complete two additional steps on https://studentaid.gov/.
- Complete Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan - Master Promissory Note (MPN) - https://studentaid.gov/mpn/subunsub/landing
- Complete Entrance Counseling for Federal Loans - https://studentaid.gov/entrance-counseling/
