The Honors Symposium showcases academic research and creative scholarship by JMU Honors students. Student presenters will serve as panelists, and will offer brief presentations about their Honors Capstone Projects or other Honors research and scholarship, as well as answer questions.We hope that JMU students, faculty, family and friends will attend the Symposium to learn about unique, interdisciplinary work conducted by Honors students.

How to Participate

We invite participants who are working on academic projects in any of the following contexts:

  • Honors Capstone Projects (will fulfill the required public presentation)
  • Honors seminars and area of emphasis courses
  • Honors General Education classes
  • Honors options
  • Non-honors classes
  • Research labs and research apprenticeships
  • Creative and performance-based work
  • Study abroad experiences
  • Service work and community-based activity
  • Other

Group projects and collaborative presentations are encouraged.

Participating students present posters that outline and illustrate their scholarly projects. Information on designing research posters is available below.

Poster Details

All presenters must prepare a poster using Powerpoint. If you send your poster Powerpoint file to davis4am@jmu.edu by April 11, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., the Honors College will pay for your poster to be printed. There will be NO printing deadline extensions granted. This is a FIRM deadline. If you are printing your poster yourself, the deadline to get it to Hillcrest is April 18, 2024 by close of business at 5:00 p.m.

Resources for Designing Posters

The following resources provide guidelines and information on designing posters. Posters should be 36x48 in dimension. Madison Print Services can print posters for as little as $12. Instructions are included in first link below.
