Chuck Dotas is a Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at James Madison University, where he directs the JMU Jazz Ensemble and is also Coordinator for the JMU Office of International Programs' Summer Study Abroad jazz residency "The Arts and Culture of Montreal." Professor Dotas holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Northern Colorado. Previously, Dr. Dotas was on the Jazz Studies faculty at McGill University, and also taught in the Wisconsin public schools for six years. He was a Composer-in-Residence for the Staunton Music Festival from 2005-2015, and is active as a commissioned composer and clinician at universities and jazz festivals throughout the United States. Dotas’ music has been featured on CDs by university and professional ensembles in Canada and the United States, and has been performed in Germany, Taiwan, New Zealand, and South Africa. His music is published through UNC Jazz Press, Walrus Music, and ejazzlines.
