Jonathan Gibson is a musicologist whose research interests, publications, and presentations span several areas, including: music of the Baroque era (particularly the aesthetics of music and eloquence in the late seventeenth-century France); sound studies and material studies; historical performance; and music history pedagogy. At James Madison University, Dr. Gibson teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in musicology, historically-informed performance, sound studies, the pedagogy of music history and music appreciation, and ethnomusicology. He founded and directs the University's early music ensembles, and plays the viol.
