What to Expect During Okta Go-Live

Information Technology-Computing

We’re very close to the highly anticipated Spring Break Okta Go-Live, and you should have already downloaded Okta Verify and enrolled so that you're ready! We know you’re wondering what to expect in the days leading up to go-live and immediately following. Here’s a look at this critical period.

Important Observations During Go-Live

Note: More items will be added as go-live progresses.

  • The first time you log into any application that has been transitioned to Okta, you may be forced to sign into all Microsoft applications again (email included), on all of your devices. This is due to a behind-the-scenes technical process, but your password remains the same.
  • Your JMU Mac may ask you to sync your Mac and AD passwords after you have logged into an Okta-protected application for the first time. Your password did not change, so entering your password twice in the prompt will dismiss the notice.

Chronology of Go-Live Activities

Monday, March 10

  • IT pauses the creation of new eIDs until Okta is live.

Friday, March 14 (5:00 PM ET)

  • IT Help Desk closes for the entire weekend.
  • Password changes will not be available until Okta is live.

Saturday, March 15

  • MyAccounts tab in MyMadison is permanently removed.
  • All JMU systems are unavailable from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM ET.
  • Everyone is asked not to attempt to log into any JMU system on this day.

Sunday, March 16

  • Technical teams are testing JMU systems and Okta.
  • While many JMU systems may be available, everyone is asked to avoid using them due to unavailability of support.

Monday, March 17 (8:00 AM ET)

  • All JMU systems are fully available and Okta is considered live.
  • IT Help Desk reopens to provide live technical support.
  • Password changes and device management are available through mylogin.jmu.edu.

Is there a way to get updates on the project status?

Should I delete Duo Mobile?

Please keep Duo Mobile on your devices until at least March 31. If you only use it for JMU purposes, you may delete it after that time, but you should not delete it if you will continue to use it for non-JMU applications.
