What is Accommodate?
Accommodate is JMU's online system for students to view and manage their accommodations. The student portal can be accessed from the "Student" tab in MyMadison. See the "How do I use Accommodate?" section below for more information.
Watch the Accommodate Student Portal overview video to learn how to access Accommodate, where to find announcements, view your original accommodation request, make supplemental requests, make semester requests, view your Accessibility Letters and more.
>> (Narrator): In this tutorial, we will cover the Student Portal in Accommodate.
Please remember that all content for an individual student is considered confidential and passwords should not be shared with anyone, including fellow students or parents.
To log into Accommodate, log into MyMadison and click on the "Student" tab. You will find the Accommodate shortcut located in the lower left portion of the screen.
Go ahead and click on the Accommodate shortcut.
You will be brought to your student portal homepage in Accommodate.
In the center of your homepage, you will find your News Feed, where any announcements or notifications will be posted.
In the left side menu, you will see several links. In this tutorial, we will cover the options under the "Accommodation" link.
The first section under "Accommodation" is "Accessibility Request." Here you can find current as well as previous requests that you have made to Disability Services.
The next section is "Supplemental." Here is where you can add new supplemental requests in addition to your original accessibility request.
To request a new or supplemental accommodation, click the "Add New" button. You will then be brought to a screen where you can describe how your disability is affecting you academically, and what new accommodations you are requesting. You can also attach documentation to support your request, and then submit your supplemental request.
The next section is called "Semester Request." You will use this section each semester that you wish to use your accommodations in any of your courses. We have created a separate tutorial for how to make your semester request each semester.
The next section is "Accessibility Letters." This is where you can view the letters that have been emailed to your professors with your approved accommodations listed.
The last section is "Equipment." This is where you can view any equipment that is approved through your accommodations that you have checked out through Disability Services.

Accommodate Semester Request Tutorial
Watch the following Accommodate Semester Request video tutorial to get instructions for how request your Accommodation Letters. Submitting a "semester request" is how you will request your Accommodation Letters be sent to your professors. You will need to submit a semester request in Accommodate for each semester that you wish to use your accommodations.
**Please select the "Submit For All Accommodations" option if you want to use all of your accommodations in all of your classes for the semester you are requesting**
>> (Narrator): Log into MyMadison using your JMU e-ID and password.
Click on the "Student" tab at the top of the page, and scroll down to click on the Accommodate logo, which will take you to your Student Portal.
Each semester you are enrolled, you will need to submit a Semester Request in the Accommodate Data Management System in order to utilize your approved accommodation.
Your letters of accommodations will then be emailed to you and your instructors for the courses you selected in your Semester Request.
To begin, log into Accommodate using your JMU e-ID and password.
You will be taken to a home screen that looks like this.
Click on the "Accommodation" link in the left side menu and then select "Semester Request."
This screen will show you your Accommodation Letter requests from previous semesters.
To request accommodations for this semester, click the "Add New" button.
Select the current semester from the drop down menu, now you'll be able to choose between two options.
The "Submit For All Accommodations" button will send all accommodations to all of your professors and will complete the process.
The "Review The Renewal" button allows you to select which accommodations you want to send to which faculty.
If you choose to select the "Review The Renewal" button, you will see a box for each of your accommodations.
Select the "Choose" button to select the accommodation.
Choose the accommodations that you would like applied by clicking the radio button to the left of the listed accommodation. You can then click "Done" to continue the process.
For each accommodation, there will be a list for your courses for the semester. Use the check marks to indicate the course in which you want the accommodation letters to be sent to.
If there is an accommodation that you do not want to send any of your faculty this semester, click the "Remove Accommodation" button. Removing the accommodation only removes it from this request. It can be added later in the current semester, or in future semesters if needed.
If you accidentally click this button, please note that if you re-click it, it will bring the accommodation right back.
When you are finished, click the "Submit" button.
Your semester request has been sent to the Office of Disability Services for review.
You will receive an email when it has been approved and sent to your professors.
As always, it's important to discuss your accommodations with your faculty as soon as possible to lay out the rest of your semester.
If you have any questions about completing the Semester Request, please email us at disability-svcs@jmu.edu
