Brandi Duncan serves as the Director of Engagement in the Office of the President. She joined the Office of the President in 2023.

In her role, Ms. Duncan serves as a partner to Harrisonburg City leadership, Rockingham County leadership and James Madison University (JMU). She works closely with local university partners and campus partners, facilitating conversations and initiatives supporting the continued growth and development of the combined JMU campus, Harrisonburg City, and Rockingham County communities.

She also leads the Presidential Engagement Fellows program and directly supports the work of the Office of the President through presidential communications and service on presidential sponsored committees and commissions.

Ms. Duncan discovered her passion for higher education during her 17-year career at the University of Virginia. During her time there, she developed a career in strategic donor relations in the university’s advancement division. She also created the foundation for a mentorship program providing relationship and career building opportunities for employees in early career level roles. Ms. Duncan also worked at Augusta Health Foundation where she learned more about the needs present within the vibrant, hardworking communities of the Shenandoah Valley.

Brandi Duncan is a first-generation graduate and an Augusta County native. She is an alumna of JMU’s College of Business (BBA in Marketing, ’01) and an alumna of the University of Virginia (M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, ’22). She enjoys volunteering in her local community, painting, and traveling. She values the hardworking, helping spirit of the Shenandoah Valley and is proud to work amongst many others committed to serving their communities.
