Current JMU students are responsible for keeping their legal/primary name up-to-date with the Office of the Registrar.
How Do I Change My Legal/Primary Name?
Once a student has matriculated (enrolled) at James Madison University, and requests a portion of their legal/primary name to be changed on official university records, the student is required to fill out and sign the Registrar’s Maintenance Form and provide the supporting documentation required on the form to the Office of the Registrar. The form and document(s) may be faxed (540-568-5615); or scanned as attachments to registrar@jmu.edu; or mailed to the following address:
