Conditions under which a student may register for a course using the Credit/No-credit option:
- Must have attained a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 or higher
- Must have successfully completed at least 28 credit hours at JMU (Transfer students must have completed 28 credit hours with at least 14 at JMU)
- No more than 4 credit hours (or one course of more than 4 credit hours) may be taken credit/no-credit per semester or summer session, with a maximum of 15 credit hours credit/no credit in the academic career
- Credit/No-credit option must be completed by the course adjustment deadline each semester
Except for field-based courses (which may be defined by a department/school as credit/no-credit), the following courses MAY NOT be taken Credit/No-credit:- Courses used to meet general education requirements
- Courses used to meet your declared major requirements
- Courses used to meet your declared minor requirements
- Any course listed by subject name in your major or minor program even if the course does not specifically satisfy a requirement in your major or minor
- Courses being repeated that were previously taken for a letter grade
- Course being repeated that were previously taken CR/NC, where CR was earned
- Degree requirements

Students are required to complete all coursework and examinations and are graded as if they are taking the course for a grade. Instructors will submit letter grades to the university registrar.
“A” through “C” will be changed to “CR” (credit)
“C-”and below will be changed to “NC” (no credit)
If you and your course meet the above conditions, complete the following form and email it to the registrar’s office (registrar@jmu.edu) by the course adjustment deadline of March 19, 2021.
